Romans 8:11-14 | EV Church | 25/08/2013 | Craig Dobbie

Points us to the objective truth of the gospel seen in Jesus (Rom 5:8) 2. Shows you Gods love in a subjective way so you feel it (Rom 5:5) 3. Awakens our knowledge that we are Gods children Pray that you will engage in the fight against sin, and share in Christ's suffering as evidence of your salvation.
The new and better sacrifice
Hebrews 9:1-14 | EV Night | 23/10/2022 | Todd Parry-Jones
The Holy Spirit, along with the Hebrews author, teaches us that the Old Covenant sacrifices were not able to bring people into God's presence, because they couldn't clear people's consciences. In this sermon Todd Parry-Jones shares with us that Jesus' sacrifice, once for all, is INFINITELY BETTER - it cleanses us of our sin, and clears our guilty consciences, so that we can draw near to God with confidence!

Romans 7:1-6
Romans 7:1-6 | EV Church | 4/08/2013 | Andrew Heard
Much of Romans is meant to correct misunderstandings. Andrew unpacks the first 6 verses of Romans 7 in light of several misunderstandings. 1. Everything one day will be okay. 2. If God is holy and angry at sin, give me the laws to live by. 3. We misunderstand marriage. Being bound by marriage is different to being romantically connected. 4. Christians live under guilt. (wrong - we are counted as righteous). 5. If I'm saved by what Christ has done, I can do what I like. 6. To be in the spirit means you don't need the written word. 7. Christians are no different to anyone else. 8. Christianity is like every others religion Pray that you will rejoice that we are free from the law, and free to grow in holiness for Christ our rescuer.
Luke 7:18-28
Luke 7:18-28 | EV Church | 10/02/2013 | Andrew Heard
Andrew Heard preaching on Luke 7:18-28. Even John the Baptist, who Jesus claim was the greatest man that ever lived had doubt. Expecting "the coming one" to bring fire, and hearing the reports of what Jesus was doing gave him doubt. Jesus did come to bring judgement at the cross, but before then focused on seeking out the remnant and to seek and save the lost. Doubts that are founded in the wrong teaching, lead to a rebellious doubt, but John's doubt wasnt a rebellious doubt, but rather one which was inquisitive / weak. He answers John disciples, saying I'm the one mentioned in Isaiah (Isa 35:3, Isa 61) Luke 7 was written to bring us face to face with who Jesus is. He healed the sick, brought people back from the dead and offered forgiveness, engaging with a gentile, window, & a sinful woman.
Don Carson - Matthew 2:1-12
Matthew 2:1-12 | EV Church | 16/12/2012 | Don Carson
Don Carson reflects on the wise men's visit to Bethlehem and the insights for the gospel of Matthew. 1. Jesus is King 2. Gentiles are included in the gospel. The pagan wise men were Gentiles, as was Ruth (see genealogy in Matthew 1), right through to Matthew 28. 3. Evil forces will try to kill Jesus. Not only Herod, Satan etc. 4. The world Jesus comes to is evil. (Slaughter of infant boys 2 and under in second part of Matt 2) 5. God sometimes uses strange means. (Use of pagan wise men, plus numerous other examples throughout Matthew) 6. The coming if Jesus fulfills scripture. 7. God in His so sovereignty preserves (escape to Egypt, Matt 8:23) 8. At select points in history God intervenes more immediately. (The birth of Jesus includes 5 miracles - God is saying LOOK AT THIS! ) 9. Jesus is worthy of all worship. (The wise men and on the day of judgement 'All knees will bow' ) Pray that you will recognise the Lordship of Jesus, worship Him as our saviour.
