Your life really matters
Ecclesiastes 2:1-11 | EV Night | 21/01/2024 | Andrew Hayes
To see the slides click -> slides https://evchurch.info/20240121-slides Does your life really matter? From preschool up, we're told "of course it does!" But this approach doesn't work - it is selfish and empty, and not built on anything solid enough to support the weight of a whole life. Andrew Hayes looks at Hebrews 9:27-28 to rebuild a foundation that is far stronger. Your life really matters because of God, his judgment, and Jesus.
Vindication
Acts 2:22-41 | EV Night | 19/11/2023 | Andrew Hayes
To see the slides click -> https://evchurch.info/20231119-slides How does the resurrection contribute to our salvation? It is much more than just proof that vindicates Jesus' claims. It is how Jesus takes his seat on the throne, as the promised Messiah, and so it qualifies him to send the Spirit. Andrew Hayes takes us through these truths and shows how they grow our confidence.

Judges 11:29-35
Judges 11:29-35 | EV Church | 16/06/2013 | Andrew Heard
Andrew preaching on Jephthat. As the Judges cycle continues, we see in Judges 10:15-16, Israel repents and God in his mercy, rescues them - not because God owes them anything, but because He was grieved by their misery. Jephthat's vow had 2 problems 1. A stupid vow. 2. It was godless, and in effect was an attempt to bribe God. What Jepthat failed to do is to recognise God for who He is. God's mercy and grace is poured out on us because of who He is, not because of our works, vows or sacrifices. Pray for a repentant heart and a greater understanding of God's mercy.

The Gift of Salvation
Ephesians 2:1-10 | EV Night | 22/10/2023 | Andrew Hayes
To see the slides click -> evchurch.info/20231022-slides What does it mean to be saved by grace? What are we saved to, and what does grace even mean? Andrew Hayes compares two views of grace that sound similar, but lead to different saviours. Only one saviour can really save - as we see from Ephesians 2:1-10.
Judges 4:1-10
Judges 4:1-10 | EV Church | 12/05/2013 | Andrew Heard
Andrew unpacks the story of Deborah to demonstrate the surprising nature of the Bible. 1. The way the Bible talks about women. Women in the bible are strong and also wise (see also Prov 31) 2. The way the Bible presents humanity as enslaved by sin. As we shift away from God's word, we spiral into corruption. 3. The sovereignty of God. God in his amazing grace hears the people crys and uses unexpected characters to do unexpected things to achieve His outcomes.
Honour your Elders
1 Timothy 5:17-25 | EV Night | 30/06/2024 | Andrew Hayes

Parable of the Sower
Luke 8:4-15 | EV Church | 17/02/2013 | Tim Baldwin
Tim Baldwin unpacks the parable of the sower. Parables are not given so that everyone understands, but rather (v9) to speak like Isaiah, as a form of judgement. Truth is concealed from the casual listener, who ultimately are judged for ignoring Gods truth. God is a speaking God and His word (the seed) is delivered and heard in many ways. 1. Path - the devil takes away the word of God. 2. Rocky ground - receive the word with joy, then fall away when testing comes 3. Thorns - hear the word, but allows life's worries, riches and pleasures to take priority 4. Good soil - hear & retain the word and through perseverance produce an abundant harvest of godliness with a passion for mission. Pray that you listen to God's word and have your life shaped by it to become more like Christ.
