Clear

Jeremiah ministers through Judah's final days into Babylonian exile. The book's unifying theme is God's word, structured in two movements: first, God's word of fire tears down idolatrous Judah—its false security in temple, covenant, and monarchy (ch. 2-24); second, that same word is vindicated among the nations and plants new life, including the promise of a new covenant written on hearts (ch. 25-52). Though heavy with judgment against hard-hearted rebellion, the book reveals God's patience and faithfulness, preserving a remnant. Two promises point forward to Jesus: a righteous Davidic king (23:5-6) and the new covenant fulfilled through His blood (31:33-34).
