1 & 2 Kings recounts the unfolding story of the Kingdom of Israel and gives us the narrative "spine" from which much of the rest of the old testament extends. It is the outworking in history of God's covenant established at Sinai through Moses - the blessings that were promised for obedience and the curses for disobedience. We see God's blessing on David and Solomon (the Wonder), the evil with which the kings led their people into disobedience (the Wickedness), and, therefore, the rightness of God's action as he judges (the Warning). Yet, in all of this, God's patient character continues to shine as he bears-with a rebellious people, repeatedly delaying judgement, and reiterating his commitment to his promises of a forever King (the one to come).

John Woodhouse, former principal and Old Testament lecturer at Moore Theological College helps us think through what it means to believe in the one just and gracious God of the Old and New Testaments.
