In Need Of A King
Judges 11:29-35
Judges 11:29-35 | EV Church | 16/06/2013 | Andrew Heard
Andrew preaching on Jephthat. As the Judges cycle continues, we see in Judges 10:15-16, Israel repents and God in his mercy, rescues them - not because God owes them anything, but because He was grieved by their misery. Jephthat's vow had 2 problems 1. A stupid vow. 2. It was godless, and in effect was an attempt to bribe God. What Jepthat failed to do is to recognise God for who He is. God's mercy and grace is poured out on us because of who He is, not because of our works, vows or sacrifices. Pray for a repentant heart and a greater understanding of God's mercy.

Andrew looks at the bible's view on women
Judges 4:1-10
Judges 4:1-10 | EV Church | 12/05/2013 | Andrew Heard
Andrew unpacks the story of Deborah to demonstrate the surprising nature of the Bible. 1. The way the Bible talks about women. Women in the bible are strong and also wise (see also Prov 31) 2. The way the Bible presents humanity as enslaved by sin. As we shift away from God's word, we spiral into corruption. 3. The sovereignty of God. God in his amazing grace hears the people crys and uses unexpected characters to do unexpected things to achieve His outcomes.
